New Writers’ Conference

New writers conference

If you follow this blog, I’m guessing you’re probably interested in writing, editing, or both. And I’m sure you’ve figured out how much I value conferences. After all, I recently ran a contest for a full scholarship to next March’s Mount Hermon Christian Writers’ Conference. And The Christian PEN, which I’m the founder and director of, is holding our second convention for editors, PENCON, in May of next year. If you haven’t checked them out, I encourage you to do so.

But there’s a new conference that you may not be aware of. It’s coming up soon. And it’s really exciting!

Wouldn’t you just love to have an opportunity to meet Cecil Murphey? Cec has written or cowritten more than 135 books, including the New York Times best seller 90 Minutes in Heaven (with Don Piper) and Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story. His books have sold in the millions. He has a tremendous passion for helping writers, and I have the great privilege and honor of being able to call him my friend. Spending just a few minutes with Cec will get you on track and excited about pursuing whatever God has called you to write.

And how about an opportunity to meet Jerry B. Jenkins, author of more than 180 books, including the hugely popular Left Behind series? Twenty of his books have reached the New York Times best-seller’s list (seven in the number-one spot) and have appeared on the USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and Wall Street Journal best-seller lists. His books have sold nearly 70 million copies.

Have you heard of “SuzyQ”? Suzanne Kuhn has more than twenty years of book retailing experience, working in all areas of book retailing and event sales. SuzyQ is her full-service author promotion and retail development firm that works with authors, publishers, and retailers, helping to coordinate events, train staff and authors in reader engagement, and develop promotions for increased sales and reader/customer loyalty. Her husband, Shawn, was vice president of a bargain book chain for more than twenty-five years. He offers SuzyQ’s clients guidance and support in all aspects of their book careers.

Do you know about the Munce Group? It’s America’s largest association of independent Christian retail stores. Its president, Kirk David Blank, is also the publisher of More to Life.

Now, imagine being in the face-to-face presence of Cecil Murphey, Jerry B. Jenkins, Suzanne and Shawn Kuhn, Kirk David Blank, and yours truly, all in one place! It’s happening at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania, January 16-18, 2015.

Friday, January 16, starts with a SuzyQ Author Boot Camp from 1:00 to 5:00. After dinner and a general session, there’s a “Shark Tank- like experience” called PUB Board from 8:00 to 9:00. Saturday, January 17, has another general session, then two morning two tracks: fiction or nonfiction. After lunch, there are two afternoon two tracks: publishing or marketing. Following a third general session will be a Q&A panel with these amazing industry professionals.

If that’s not enough, Sunday morning, January 18, will feature an “Editor Boot Camp,” where I will be presenting workshops on Establishing a Freelance Editing Business, Proofreading, and Editing for Clients. If you’ve ever thought about becoming an editorial freelancer, this would be a great opportunity to learn the ropes.

The fee to attend the Writer to Writer conference (Friday at 7 PM through Saturday at 6 PM) is $299. The SuzyQ Author Boot Camp (Friday, 1-5) is $199. The Editor Boot Camp (Sunday, 8:30-12:30) is $199.

But if you pre-register by December 30, 2014, you can attend the Author Boot Camp and the Editor Boot Camp FREE!

Does it get any better than that? Yes, it does! Cec Murphey is offering ten scholarships to this conference. (Deadline to apply is December 30.)
